Chuck Debus :

I am passionate about helping people live healthy and longer by using functional training.  During a workout session we train every muscle, bone, ligament and tendon. My training is for all ages and personal goals. I custom design your workout for your personal fitness needs and goals: cardio, flexibility, mobility, agility, balance, strength, and more.

Method

Speed is partly genetic and partly learned skill. I program the learned skill part. Everyone can learn to be faster.

  1. We first have to learn mechanical efficiency (getting into correct mechanical positions.) i.e. 150 degree ankle to knee to hip while at maximum velocity so the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and bones are all functioning optionally.
  2. When we lift an empty milk carton that we think is full, we recruit more fast twitch fibers than necessary for that physical movement. So when running and accelerating from 0 velocity, we must learn to recruit as many fast twitch fibers as possible. This can be learned.
  3. Once we have learned the correct mechanical positions , then program them into the motor system in the correct sequence of firing using thousands of repetitions, we begin to develop strength in these specific muscles, tendons, and ligaments so they will be able to execute the sprint movements with more velocity.
  4. And finally stride frequency must be developed through a series of plyometric drills designed specifically to develop higher stride frequency for the exact sprint movements. Speed = stride length x stride frequency.

In the past I have trained a long list of professional and Olympic athletes. Unfortunately, in the 90s, because of an erroneous suspension by Track and Field USA, I could not train the Olympic team for a period of time. After a few years I was cleared and reinstated. All the time I continued to train and coach. Unfortunately the negative - erroneous - publicity from that time is still visible online
